One of my best friends, shot during a (too) short get together. After a few minutes my friends get used to the fact that I'm sitting there with a DSLR, and that every now and then I take photographs during the conversations we have, or the games we play. This is one of the better shots.

I know that the sweet spot has been placed on the hair, instead of the eyes. But I feel that in this case it emphasises the feeling I personally got while looking at these particular photographs. And that is the feeling of inevitability.

We're getting older. I'm only 38 years old, and slowly it is beginning to dawn to me, that I'm getting older. Sure, I'm experiencing more and more the consequences of an ageing body, but nothing says getting older more clearly than looking at your lifelong friends. More and more grey hairs emerge, lines grow stronger and wisdom grows (or at least I hope that it is wisdom).

We will fade, like moments, memories and photographs. I've caught a moment in time; a fond memory to be used in the future. Hopefully, for decades to come, I will remember the warm feeling I had, the taste of the blueberry and lemon cake and the joy of winning a game of "Forbidden Island". In fifty years this photograph and the moment it caught will probably be forgotten.

I hope we still aren't halfway on our journey together. We need to see each other more often.
